How To Report A Claim After A Catastrophe

Keep a list of your policy numbers off site and/or stored on your electronic devices.

Report your claim as soon as possible via one of the following ways:

  • Call Focus main switchboard at 713-425-6700 advise the operator you need to report a claim
  • Download your insurance company’s App to your electronic device. In some cases you may have more than one insurance company. Once on the App look for the Report a Claim tab and follow the instructions
  • Call the phone number listed on the front page of your policy.

Again, you will need your policy number to speed up this process.

Please be advised it is not unusual to have reassigned adjusters during catastrophe events.

Your Duties As An Insured After A Loss

We highly recommend you make good notes through the claim process. Once your claim number and adjuster assignments have been made record this information for future reference.

1. Photograph and/or video all damage to your property, including but not limited to, damage to your home, vehicles, recreational vehicles, watercraft, personal belongings, downed trees etc.
This should only be done when it is safe to do so;

2. Protect your property from further damage.

  • Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage to your property. This would include covering breaks in a roof, wall or windows with plywood, canvas or other waterproof material such as a tarp. Do not have permanent repairs made. Unauthorized repairs may not be reimbursed. Keep your receipts.
  • As soon as you can, prepare a detailed inventory of all damaged or destroyed personal property for the adjuster. Be sure to keep a copy. Include as much information as possible including: description, cost, replacement cost, and approximate date of purchase, if known.
  • Start cleaning up- do not throw anything away unless the adjuster says it is okay to do so. A picture is worth a thousand words. Take photos!
